Decolonizing Practice

Healing was never meant to fit inside one framework.

Therapeutic Practice

Modern psychotherapy has given us extraordinary tools. It has also inherited assumptions about health, healing, expertise, and success that deserve thoughtful examination. My work is rooted in the belief that effective therapy does not require choosing between science and humanity. It requires integrating both.

Decolonizing therapeutic practice means creating space for multiple ways of knowing. It means recognizing that healing is influenced not only by thoughts and behaviours, but also by relationships, culture, community, history, identity, and the nervous system. It means moving beyond rigid protocols toward approaches that remain evidence-informed while responding to the uniqueness of each individual.

What does Decolonizing Practice mean?

For me, decolonizing practice means asking better questions.

Who decides what "healthy" looks like?

Whose voices have shaped our understanding of mental health?

How do power, privilege, culture, and history influence the therapeutic relationship?

How can we honour scientific evidence without dismissing cultural knowledge, lived experience, or relational wisdom?

This work isn't about rejecting psychology.

It's about expanding it.

Beyond Trauma-Informed Care

Many organizations have adopted trauma-informed language while continuing to operate within systems that unintentionally reinforce stress, hierarchy, burnout, and disconnection.

True trauma-informed practice isn't simply understanding trauma.

It's understanding safety.

It means examining how our policies, leadership, communication, workplace culture, and clinical practices influence people's nervous systems every single day.

Psychological safety cannot be achieved through policy alone. It is built through relationships.
